Abstract

KAMIA, Meiry  and  PORTO, Juliana B.. Development and validation of an Organizational Proactive Behavior Scale - OPBS. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.3, pp. 359-367. ISSN 1677-0471.

Researches on proactivity have gained strength over the past fifteen years as a result of the increasing competitiveness and complexity on the global economy. Proactive behavior is a set of behaviors that the employee spontaneously looks for changes at his working environment, anticipating and solving problems, aiming at targets that benefit the organization. The purpose of this study was to develop and validate an instrument for measuring Proactive Behavior within Organizations. In order to be validated, the scale was developed based on interviews and former instruments. This scale was applied in 346 employees from several organizations. The results of the exploratory factor analysis point to one factor with Cronbach's Alpha of 0,95. The results of ANOVAs and t tests revealed significant differences between supervisors and other employees, as well as between entrepreneurs and other professional categories. The conclusion is that the initial tests indicate the validity of the scale.

Keywords : Initiative; Proactive behavior; Test-validity.
