The body image disturbances can act both as predisposing as maintaining factors of eating disorders, especially in anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. The aim of this study was to identify, through a literature review, which validated scales are available in Brazil, that can be used in clinical follow up or in research. This review was carried out on reports drawn from electronic bases (SciELO, Lilacs and Scopus) and from Capes' Thesis Collection, with no limit of time. The research gave us 313 references and by the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the research, 7 were evaluated as useful. The selected scales assess characteristic components of the population, like concern, control, investment, avoidance and body dissatisfaction. The inclusion of these assessments is important in monitoring the treatment. However, even in clinic and research, the evaluation of the body image on eating disorders is not consolidated in Brazil.
