Abstract

KOBARG, Ana Paula Ribeiro; VIEIRA, Viviane  and  VIEIRA, Mauro Luís. VALIDATION OF THE SCALE OF MEMORIES ON PARENTING PRACTICES (EMBU). Aval. psicol. [online]. 2010, vol.9, n.1, pp. 77-85. ISSN 1677-0471.

The parenting practices can be understood as sets of parental behaviors related in the socialization of children. This study aimed to validate a scale that assesses memories on parenting practices during childhood. In total, 454 undergraduate students of both sexes participated in the study. The instrument was composed of 23 items for each parent that answered through a scale of four points. The scale covers three dimensions: emotional support, rejection and overprotection. The first analysis of main components confirmed the three factors, with reliability index of 0.78 (Cronbach's Alpha), furthermore with factor = 0.89 KMO and Bartlett significant (p <0.01). In the method of extracting, two items were excluded and an item changed its factor. The results indicated the importance of validation of the instrument, which needs to be contextualized according to the culture where it is applied.

Keywords : memories of childhood; parenting practices; validation; precision.
