Abstract

The formation of psychologists and the need for advances in this area are issues discussed for some time. Specifically regarding the formation in psychological assessment, in a historical point of view, several events can be mentioned, at national and international range, that helped in promoting outcomes that have brought major advances in this area. Accordingly, it can be argued that the 1990s represented a milestone for the start of a new period of development in psychological assessment in Brazil, although there is still much to be improved. This paper aims to clarify matters related to formation in psychological assessment, and, in addition to raising this issue, pretentiously suggests some reflections. To this end, discussions are presented on elements guiding the teaching of psychological evaluation in the country. As basis, texts that are national and international reference in the context of psychological assessment were used. As a final consideration for future directions it is highlighted the need for discussions and debates in the field of psychological assessment that are not only in the field of ideas, but also that perpetuate to the performance and professional practice.
