This article presents some psychometrics properties of the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) in a sample of young adults from the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, RS. The instrument evaluates the quality of parent-child bonding in childhood and adolescence. A hundred and ninety-five university students participated (127 female, 65, 1%) ages between 17 to 30 (M=22,45, SD=3,82). Participants answered the PBI and the Familiogram instruments. The PBI validity and reliability were satisfactory in a two factor model. Maternal and Paternal Care scores were positively correlated to Affection and negatively correlated to Conflict. However, Overprotection and Control scores correlated positively with Conflict. The results point out to validity and reliability to the PBI in this sample, and it is highlighted the instrument´s importance to research about family relations.
