Abstract

FERREIRA, Aristides Isidoro; MARTINEZ, Luís Fructuoso; SOUSA, Luís Manuel  and  CUNHA, João Vieira da. VALIDATION INTO PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE OF PRESENTEEISM SCALESWLQ-8 AND SPS-6. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2010, vol.9, n.2, pp. 253-266. ISSN 1677-0471.

This study aimed to validate two presenteeism scales to the Portuguese language and present the metrical properties of the short versions, in Portuguese, of the Work Limitations Questionnaire (WLQ) and the Stanford Presenteeism Scale (SPS-6). These instruments were designed to measure presenteeism: an emerging concept in organizations that consists of workers being on the job but, due to physical or psychological disorders, not be fully functioning. Portuguese workers from health, education and bank sectors (n = 305) participated in our study. By conducting principal component analysis with varimax rotation, confirmatory factor analysis, concomitance studies and item response theory, the appropriate metrical qualities of both scales were demonstrated. Thus, we suggest the application of these instruments in organizational context, in order to detect patterns of inactivity related to presenteeism.
