Abstract

This article presents the process of construction and the search for evidence of validity of the Higher Education Self- Efficacy Scale which evaluates the students´ beliefs of their capability to cope with the demands in higher education. 535 participants answered the instrument. The Factorial analysis, with the extraction of main factors and varimax rotation, revealed 34 items and five dimensions: Academic Self-efficacy (capacity to learn and apply knowledge), Higher Education Regulation Self-Efficacy (capacity to self-regulate one´s actions), Social Interaction Self-efficacy (capacity to have relationship with colleagues and professors), Proactive Self-efficacy (capacity to enjoy and promote educational opportunities) Academic Management Self-efficacy (capacity to get involved and meet deadlines). The internal consistency of the scale is 0,94, ranging from 0,80 to 0,81 in its dimensions. The explained total variance was 56,68%. These data support the appropriateness of the instrument. Results can contribute to institutional management and teaching practices.
