Abstract

PARANHOS, Mariana Esteves; ARGIMON, Irani Iracema de Lima  and  WERLANG, Blanca Susana Guevara. Psychometric properties of the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) in adolescents. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2010, vol.9, n.3, pp. 383-392. ISSN 1677-0471.

The goal of this paper is to verify the psychometric properties of the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) through a reliability and validity. The sample had 391 adolescents from the general population, aged 13 to 19. A Personal and Socidemographic Data form, the BDI-II and the Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS) were used. Regarding reliability, the study found a good level of internal consistency (Cronbach’s Coefficient=0.86) and its response pattern proves to be stable over time (r=0.87; p<0.001). As for the convergent validity study, a positive and significant correlation at a moderate level was obtained with the BHS (r= 0.60; p<0.001). The factorial validity generated two factors, which explain 35.6% of the total variation. Results obtained proved a good psychometric performance of the BDI-II.
