FILHO, Nelson Hauck  y  TEIXEIRA, Marco Antônio Pereira. Factor Structure of the CES-D Scale in brazilian undergraduate students. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2011, vol.10, n.1, pp. 91-97. ISSN 1677-0471.

Center for Epidemiologic Studies scale (CES-D) is among the most used instruments for assessing depressive symptomatology in different age groups around the world. The aim of this work was to use confirmatory strategies to evaluate theoretically plausible concurrent structures for CES-D in a Brazilian undergraduate sample, based on a previous translated version of the instrument. Participants were 266 (mean age=20,69; SD=2,40) undergraduate students enrolled in a university from Rio Grande do Sul. Results showed that a four-factor structure, similar to the one found in the instrument’s original study, showed the best fit to the data. A modified, four-factor model also showed reasonable fit to the data. Internal consistencies for the four subscales (Cronbach’s α) ranged from 0,65 to 0,86. Complex issues concerning the instrument’s factor structure, as well as CES-D potential applications are discussed.

Palabras clave : Depression; CES-D; Psychological assessment; Psychopathology; Confirmatory factor analysis.
