Abstract

This article corresponds to a theoretical study and presents elements that characterize the psychosocial process highlighting in the discussion on the area of psychological evaluation, as a tool built, especially, to subsidy and to guide the professional in educational and community contexts. We emphasized the historical terms of psychology construction as science and profession with the objective to reflect on how they influence the consolidation of the field of psychological assessment. Finally, the dimensions of a critical perspective are presented aggregating historical and social elements and encouraging the discussion on the psychosocial assessment, which differentiates from traditional psychological assessment.
