PASIN, Elizabeth Bozoti; PAI, Maria das Graças Vasconcelos  and  LANNES, Denise Rocha Correa. Association between psychological and relational factors and academic performance in elementary school. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2012, vol.11, n.2, pp. 275-286. ISSN 1677-0471.

Considering the results of periodic national assessments, different aspects have been identified as influential on school performance. Our research aims to map relational and psychological factors that may affect students’ performance. The purpose of this study is to investigate the interaction between the stress level, the perceived competence, the general self- -esteem and the school performance of a group composed by 48 students from 6th grade of elementary school. To measure the students’ stress levels, we adopted the Child Stress Scale by Lipp & Lucarelli and to determine the perceived competence and the general self-esteem, we developed a translation of the Perceived Competence Scale by Susan Harter. Results show a significantly lower performance by students with excessive stress and/ or with low cognitive and social perceived competence.

Keywords : psychological factors; relational factors; school performance; factores psicológicos; factores relacionales; rendimiento escolar.
