GUEDES, Danielle Viveiros; BARBOSA, Altemir José Gonçalves  and  MAGALHAES, Neide Cordeiro de. Quality of life of elderly with cognitive impairment: self and proxy-reports. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2013, vol.12, n.1, pp. 9-17. ISSN 1677-0471.

This study aimed at compare the assessments made by the elderly (self-report) and by their caregivers (proxy-report) about the quality of life, as well as to analyze the internal consistency of a measure when self or proxy-reported. The Quality of Life in Alzheimer Disease scale was administered in 65 elderly with cognitive impairment and in 40 caregivers. We obtained significant positive correlation between self and proxy-reports. There was no difference between the total scale self and proxy-reported. Only the items Physical Health and Relationship with Family showed significant difference when compared the self and the proxy-reports. We obtained acceptable levels of internal consistency for both versions of the scale. The results allowed to affirming that there were more similarities than differences between self and proxy-report and that the scale seems to be reliable for the use with elderly and their caregivers in the Brazilian context.
