Abstract

MAGALHAES, Mauro de Oliveira. Criterion validity of the Activities Scale of the Self Directed Search Questionnaire. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2013, vol.12, n.1, pp. 91-99. ISSN 1677-0471.

This research examined the criterion validity of the Brazilian version of the Activities Scale of the Self Directed Search (SDS). The Self Directed Search assesses professional interests and recommends professions with greatest probability of individual’s personal satisfaction and career success. The criterion groups were students enrolled in different university courses. Theoretical expectations were verified through the comparison or interest scores between and within criterion groups. In general, the results corroborated predictions derived from the hexagonal model of interests, assuming the criterion validity of the measure under study. In terms of vocational guidance practice, the results recommend a careful and contextualized use of career typological codes listed in the instrument, in order do adequate them to the specific characteristics of education-work relations in Brazil.

Keywords : psychological assessment; professional interests; criterion validity.
