Abstract

Metacognition correspond to thoughts and knowledge that individuals have about their own thoughts and cognitive processes. Because the lack of national instruments that measure this ability, this study aimed the development of items and analyses the evidence of validity based on content and semantic analysis of the scale for assessment metacognition of children between 9 and 12 years old. The Metacognition Scale obtained a concordance of 70.3% in the evaluation of experts and they also suggested little changes in some items and instructions. The scale was applied in two sample of 15 participants aged between 9 and 11 years and have produced other changes in the instructions and reducing the number of items 70 to 67. The results were favorable to the accumulation of the evidence of validity; however, other psychometric parameters must still be evaluated.
