Self development follows diverse trajectories according to cultural models, which are build in relation to specific contexts. This study aims to present the adaptation of an instrument for the assessment of those developmental trajectories’ variety, created by Ç. Kağitçibaşi. It is composed by three scales: Autonomy, Interdependence and Autonomy-related. The scales were translated into Brazilian Portuguese, adapted and administered to 207 adult participants of both sexes. The Principal Components Analysis and Exploratory Factor Analysis suggest that each scale is one-dimensional, although with caveats. The Cronbach’s Alpha revealed moderate internal consistency for the three scales. Results were discussed in relation to the theoretical model. The instrument can be useful for Brazilian studies on systems of beliefs and on cultural models. However, we have pondered about its limitations, as well as about the need of future studies for the development of an instrument that evaluates the dimensions of agency and interpersonal distance.
