SHIMADA, Milena  y  MELO-SILVA, Lucy Leal. Vocational interests and gender roles: female choices in the Berufsbilder-Test (BBT-Br). Aval. psicol. [online]. 2013, vol.12, n.2, pp. 243-251. ISSN 1677-0471.

Gender, educational and socioeconomic levels are important variables in the understanding of career choice. This study focuses on gender, aiming to investigate the vocational interests of female participants. The sample was composed by 373 women, aged between 14 and 21 years old, from public (n = 94) and private schools (n = 279), who performed the Berufsbilder Test (BBTBr) during a Vocational Guidance process. The results indicated preferences for activities related to help (predominance of the factors S and w); these profiles can illustrate expectations of female roles socially constructed. The rejected factors are related to aggressiveness (K) and professional environments characterized by organization and rationality (v). The relevance of acting on the gender stereotypes in vocational intervention, avoiding the restriction of possibilities in career development, is discussed.

Palabras clave : career choice; interests; gender; career guidance; Berufsbilder Test (BBT-Br).
