SANTOS, Manuela Zubaran; JUNIOR, Jamir João Sardá; MENEZES, Marina  and  THIEME, André Luiz. Evaluation of cognitive development of children with cancer through DFH III. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2013, vol.12, n.3, pp. 325-332. ISSN 1677-0471.

Cancer is a disease which has social, affective and cognitive implications. Due to treatment effect and length, children with cancer may suffer restrictions that might interfere in their cognitive development. This article investigated cognitive development in six children with cancer attending on Joana de Gusmão Hospital, located in Florianópolis-SC. Demographic and clinical data was collected through a brief interview and the Human Figure Drawing Test (DFH III), applied individually on six patients with cancer. Data analysis was done based on the criteria established on the DFH III manual. The results point out that one out of six kids had some cognitive development loss shown by the test. These results are in accordance with the literature and justify the need of a psychological assessment in this population.

Keywords : cancer in children; cognitive development; drawing.
