Abstract

HAZBOUN, Andressa Moreira  and  ALCHIERI, João Carlos. Justifications and concepts from psychologists who does not use psychological assessment. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2013, vol.12, n.3, pp. 361-368. ISSN 1677-0471.

Any intervention is based on an evaluating process which points its requirement. Accordingly, Psychological Assessment (AP) should be the heart of psychologist’s professional practice. However, this seems to be controversial, since many professionals question or reject the use of AP. Based on a survey with 932 psychologists, of whom 278 declared do not practice AP, we discuss the subjacent reasons and concepts regarding this attitude. We observed evidences indicating different conceptions about AP, related to deficiencies in training and/or negative attitudes directed at assessment practices and their instruments, psychological tests mainly. On the other hand, this work is inserted in a context of AP resumption, which demands debates, not only in aim of criticize, but also to propose solutions. In this scenario, we believe that AP may be a technical methodological foundation inherent in all psychological practices.
