Abstract

SCORTEGAGNA, Silvana Alba  and  AMPARO, Deise Matos do. Psychological assessment of sex offenders with the Rorschach method. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2013, vol.12, n.3, pp. 411-419. ISSN 1677-0471.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the personality characteristics of adult sexual offenders. The study enrolled three men, between 43 and 50 years of age, married, with elementary school education and low socioeconomic status. All of them were inmates in a penitentiary to intra-familial sex related crimes. For data collection, the Rorschach method was used in the Comprehensive System and a form with sociodemographic information. Data was analyzed based on the variables: self-perception, relationship and interpersonal perception, perceptual adjustment, internal pressure and self-control. The results indicated the presence of low selfesteem and self-image derangements, losses in perceptual adequacy and in the reality test, besides impaired abilities in the capability to establish interpersonal bonds, empathy and in the stability of identifications. Human sensitivity and the experiences of subjective discomfort demonstrated differences among the three cases discussed. The main findings relate to the psychological characteristics usually portrayed in the current literature and invigorate the lack of a single psychological type of sex offender.
