Abstract

GOMES, Lauren Beltrão et al. Psychometric properties of instruments for the assessment of father’s involvement: literature review. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2014, vol.13, n.1, pp. 19-27. ISSN 2175-3431 .

This study aimed to identify the description of the psychometric properties of measurement instruments of paternal involvement in scientific studies conducted between 2000 and 2012, as well as characterize the studies that used such instruments. We conducted a search in the websites BVS psi and APA PsycNET and we selected 15 papers for the analysis presented in this research. It has been found that the majority of studies provides a limited description about the psychometric instruments including the number of items, dimensions and scales, with special reference to Cronbach's alpha. We concluded that the description of the instruments available in the articles makes difficult the assessment about the validity and reliability of these. Moreover, the variety of instruments identified, the lack of standardization of some, as well as the use of non-specific instruments may indicate a deficiency regarding the quantitative means of evaluating the paternal involvement.

Keywords : paternal involvement; father-child relations; quantitative research; instruments; measure.
