The proposition of new psychological assessment instruments is a topic of great interest in psychology in recent years. The requirements for psychometric instruments include: coherent theoretical foundation, studies on precision characteristics and validity, administration procedures, scoring and interpretation. The aim of this technical note is to illustrate each step of the development and validation process of a psychological scale. In this case, examples of the stages of the development of the scale Psychological Adjustment for Teenagers will be presented, including: I – theoretical procedures, preparation of items and evidence of validity based on the content; II – evidence of validity based on internal structure; III – Evidence of validity based on relations with converging external variables.
