Abstract

STELKO-PEREIRA, Ana Carina; VALLE, Jéssica Elena  and  WILLIAMS, Lúcia Cavalcanti de Albuquerque. School Engagement Scale: Analysis of psychometric characteristics. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2015, vol.14, n.2, pp. 207-212. ISSN 1677-0471.

The objective of this paper is to present the results of factor analysis and internal consistency of the Escala de Engajamento Escolar (EEE, The School Engagement Scale). Participants were 938 Brazilian students, grades 6-10, from two public schools located in a high social-vulnerability region of a city in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. This instrument initially consisted of 17 items on a seven-point scale, ranging from 0 = never to 6 = always. Factor analysis by maximum likelihood extraction method showed only one factor. The internal consistency analysis indicated a Cronbach’s alpha equal to 0.9, which is considered excellent. The EEE has presented itself as an instrument with acceptable internal consistency, and it is important to proceed with further studies to investigate other psychometric properties of this instrument

Keywords : school engagement; motivation; academic achievement.
