For decades, the Wechsler Intelligence Scales have been periodically reviewed in search of improvements in the assessment of intelligence, both in children and adults. The purpose of this Technical Note is to present the fourth edition of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Adults (WAIS-IV), originally published in the United States, in 2008. It presents the major changes in the structure and composition of WAIS-IV and its new process scores. Updates of these intelligence scales tend to adjust the cognitive assessment with current psychometric theories and to increase the clinical utility, particularly in the neuropsychological area.
