Abstract

ARGIMON, Irani Iracema de Lima; PALOSKI, Luis Henrique; FARINA, Marianne  and  IRIGARAY, Tatiana Quarti. Applicability of the Beck Depression Inventory-Ii in the elderly: A systematic review. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2016, vol.15, n.spe, pp. 11-17. ISSN 1677-0471.

This study investigates the use of the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) in the elderly through a systematic review. Additional objectives were to characterize the samples of elderly subjects, whether clinical or not, the purpose of using the instrument, as well as the location of recruitment of participants. Two referees performed the article search in the databases indexed in Medline, PsycINFO and Embase. The recommendations of the Declaration in Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses were used for this review. From inclusion/exclusion criteria, eight articles were retrieved and analyzed. Only one of the studies involved a nonclinical sample; the BDI-II was used for the purpose of measuring depressive symptom intensity in different contexts in longitudinal and transverse studies. Subject recruitment locations were predominantly in clinics. It follows that the BDI-II is an applicable and sensitive tool for assessment of depressive symptoms in the elderly
