Abstract

ROSA SOBRINHO, Gisele Maria; HERNANDEZ, José Augusto Evangelho  and  FALCONE, Eliane Mary de Oliveira. Evidence of Validity for the Conjugal Empathy Questionnaire. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2021, vol.20, n.2, pp. 229-240. ISSN 1677-0471.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15689/ap.2021.2002.18053.11.

Studies addressing general empathy have indicated that its cognitive and emotional facets can be beneficial to marital relationships by maintaining and increasing marital satisfaction. Contributing to this line of research, this study verified the psychometric properties of the Conjugal Empathy Questionnaire. Participants were 412 adult men and women, members of 206 dyads that were in marital relationships in Rio de Janeiro/Brazil. The data submitted to Confirmatory Factor Analysis presented a good general fit to the modified model, as well as invariance between men and women and between the educational levels of the participants. The instrument presented an adequate correlation with the Interpersonal Reactivity Index for Couples, demonstrating convergent validity. The modified measure presented acceptable psychometric properties, which should stimulate the continuity of studies with this instrument.

Keywords : empathy; dyadic empathy; marital relationship; psychometry.
