Abstract

SANTIAGO, Jésus. The current clinic of male homosexuality: solution or choice of object. Psicol. rev. (Belo Horizonte) [online]. 2007, vol.13, n.2, pp. 253-266. ISSN 1677-1168.

Based on a clinical case, this paper attempts to demonstrate in what measure the homosexual issue introduces relevant questions about the anguish of poor living between sexes in societies structured in the democratic pattern of mass individualism. New standards of homosexuality, in which the ‘gay’ figure stands out, constitute an example of new sexual lifestyles, which consist of fluidity, transience, inconstancy and even making mistakes. Homosexuality is no longer restricted to the notion of inversion, whose practice was almost always clandestine and followed a private fantasy process. Since the end of the 60’s, a new affirmation form of the social symptom of the so-called gay homosexuality has taken place, with a search for its cultural insertion and the political conflict for recognition reflecting on legal grounds. If this conception of homosexuality subverts deeply the Freudian indication of the choice of object, it does not spare the formulation of the paternal question in the light of its capacity to promote the articulation between desire and law. Therefore, this paper aims to demonstrate that these new conceptual formulations reflect the need for psychoanalysis to be in harmony with the current clinic of male homosexuality.
