Abstract

D'AGORD, Marta Regina de Leão; BINKOWSKI, Gabriel Inticher  and  CHITTONI, Felipe Bücker. Psychoanalysis and pragmatism: approaches and possibilities. Psicol. rev. (Belo Horizonte) [online]. 2008, vol.14, n.1, pp. 47-62. ISSN 1677-1168.

This article develops a dialogue between psychoanalysis and the pragmatist philosophy based on a common theme: language. The comparative analysis method is applied to analyze the concepts of language in each field. If language is treated by pragmatists in terms of language games, for psychoanalysts, it is focused through the effects of speech. While pragmatists are occupied with the permanent construction of meanings, psychoanalysts consider the possibility of new meanings, through an analysis of symptoms, dreams, misunderstandings and jokes. Both perspectives, however, offer an opening to new directions generated by language, and give up the search for an ultimate referent and the ethical implications related to the idea of new directions.

Keywords : Psychoanalysis; Pragmatism; Language games; Comparative analysis.
