Abstract

MONICA ARPINI, Dorian; TANURE, Betania  and  CRISTINE OSS-EMER SOARES, Adriane. Disclosure and notification concerning violent situations against childhood and adolescence. Psicol. rev. (Belo Horizonte) [online]. 2008, vol.14, n.2, pp. 95-111. ISSN 1677-1168.

This article aims at debating violence against childhood and adolescence, focusing on the disclosure of situations and their consequences. It is a qualitative research carried out in three institutions in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul State: two schools and one basic health unit. The objective was to identify how professionals dealt with violent situations and the report to the police. For such, the technique of semi-structured interviews and focused groups was used. Results indicated problems related to disclosure and notification. Concerning disclosure, the breaking of silence was related to the professionals’ listening and commitment. As to notification, many cases were not solved by the institutions of protection and responsibility. Some feelings such as fear, weakness and disgust were identified as a result of living close to violent situations, and as a consequence of the lack of credibility related to the institutions.
