Abstract

MACHADO DE OLIVEIRA, Daniella  and  PEREIRA FULGENCIO, Leopoldo. Contribuições para o estudo da adolescência sob a ótica de Winnicott para a EducaçãoContributions to the study of adolescence in Winnicott’s perspective on educationContribuciones para el estudio de la adolescencia bajo la óptica de Winnicott para la Educación. Psicol. rev. (Belo Horizonte) [online]. 2010, vol.16, n.1, pp. 67-80. ISSN 1677-1168.

This article aims to present Winnicott’s contribution to the study of adolescence, focusing especially on the work of educators who deal with adolescents. Winnicott emphasizes adolescence as a period when youngsters are essentially immature and isolated. They do not accept false solutions and seek to come closer to reality, trying to experience it in every way. Based on his theory of emotional maturity, the dynamics present in the adolescent’s maturing process is taken into account. The article also considers which functions a suitable (family, school, cultural) environment is expected to carry out in order to sustain that maturity. Through this focus on Winnicott’s work, we hope this study will contribute to a better understanding of teenagers, being addressed to the adolescents themselves, as well as to parents, teachers, educators and everyone who deals with them

Keywords : adolescence; identity; education.
