Abstract

MENEZES DE CARVALHO, Gerusa  and  DUTRA DE MORAES, Rosângela. Overwork and illness in the Industrial Pole of Manaus. Psicol. rev. (Belo Horizonte) [online]. 2011, vol.17, n.3, pp. 465-482. ISSN 1677-1168.

The increased incidence of cases of diseases like RSI makes it imperative to analyze the new forms of work organization and the relationship to illnesses. The research on which this article is based aims to understand the process of getting sick at work in the Industrial Park of Manaus - IPM, starting with the theoretical foundation of the Psychodynamics of work, which studies the intersubjective processes utilized in the process of working and the possible destinations of suffering. A qualitative methodology has been used which used an individual semi-structured interview as an instrument to collect data. Five workers from the industries at IPM participated. They are away from work due to illness and take part in an association for those who are injured at work. The results indicate that the work organization in the IPM is characterized by overwork, pressure and other pathogenic elements related to the new forms of management, associated with flexible accumulation of capital, which contribute to the worsening of suffering and the proliferation of new social pathologies of work
