Abstract

Traumatic events, when occur in childhood, which commonly happen in situations of maltreatment, are associated with different types of psychological and mental disorders, among them, Mood Disorders. This study presents a systematic review of the literature, which aims to identify findings that describe associations between childhood trauma and Mood Disorders in adulthood. A search for key words was performed in the database: Scielo, Web of Science, PsychInfo, Pubmed and LILACS. Ten articles met the inclusion criteria established for the present study. All studies found indicated significant relationships between childhood trauma and different types of Mood Disorders. Studies also show that in cases in where there is this kind of association, are different psychiatric comorbidities, worse symptoms and prognosis.
