Studies about public clinic's clientele shows conflict between the health/ illness representations formulated by users and health professionals. This study aimed to apprehend, from the users and the School Service of Psychology professionals' reasoning, the relevant meanings in structuring the concepts: infant mental health, disorder and psychological treatment. Twenty-four users and seven professionals were interviewed. The interviews' analysis and categorization were done by adapting the technique of content analysis of Bardin. The results showed that users and professionals have similar conceptions about the researched themes regarding the importance of family relationships for a healthy infant development and the need to involve their parents in the therapeutic interventions. It was concluded that users show assignments of legitimacy to specialized reasoning about childhood, favoring necessary conditions for guidance on practical education that will be incorporated into the families' daily life
