Abstract

CASTILHO, Glória  and  BASTOS, Angélica. About old age and difficult grief: "I will not be missed". Psicol. rev. (Belo Horizonte) [online]. 2015, vol.21, n.1, pp. 1-14. ISSN 1677-1168.  http://dx.doi.org/DOI-10.5752/P.1678-9523.2015V21N1P1.

This paper aims to present and discuss the regularity in which difficult grief management in old age occurs. The number of problems and issues here is to circumscribe certain disruption in the work of mourning, expressed in sentences spoken quite often by the "elderly" under analysis, such as "I will not be missed". It uses references of S. Freud and J. Lacan about pain and anguish and it is based on the comments of the latter about a clinical sequence published by Margaret Little on the points of impasse that the work of mourning is subject to. In this framework, the place and function of anguish is proposed as being able to open and give direction to the necessary work of mourning when it allows and reports, under transfer, some lack of circulation
