Abstract

This study's aim is to analyze the mother-baby relationship in reason of its importance for the construction of emotional bonds and to child development. In order to achieve the objective, clinical indicators of risk to child development were utilized in the observations of mother-baby relationships conducted in a basic health care unit of the Children's Program. Five mother-baby dyads participated in the study. The mothers presented an adaptation and identification with their babies. It must be emphasized the strong bonds noticed in the dyads, with reciprocal affectional involvement. The presence of a network of support was also noticed. This network gives mothers assistance with babies' care and also provides them with emotional encouragement. The mothers included in the study also recognized the Children's Program as an effective support network, contributing to the establishment of a positive bond with their babies through care. Additionally, they perceive the program as an important tool for health promotion health in the public network
