Effects of the description of contingencies during story reading on children's behavior: an exploratory study. Psicol. rev. (Belo Horizonte) [online]. 2016, vol.22, n.3, pp. 558-578. The present study investigated the effects of the description of contingencies during story reading on the behavior of children 8 to 10 years of age. For group 1, two children were exposed to the reading of one story (A) which described the target behavior of a boy who grabbed party candy before the birthday party began. Next, children read another story with aversive consequence for that behavior (B). For group 2, the same stories were presented in inverse sequence. For Group 3, three different children were exposed to two new stories (C and D) about a birthday party. The children were presented with a real situation similar to the stories. The frequency of target behaviors directed toward the candy was higher after the reading of Story A than after the reading of Story B, which suggests that the description of the contingencies during story reading controlled participants' subsequent performance
