This study is part of a larger research that rescues the history of music in São João del-Rei/ MG,city that is a center of expressive musical activity, and that has different formal associations. Although its musical tradition approaches 300 years, there are reports of women’s participation in the public music scene only after the late nineteenth century. With an intergenerational theoretical framework, the specific objective of the research here presented was to knowwho the women’s participating in this musical scene are. For this, ten female musicians born or living in the citywere interviewed. The interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed privileging a discourse analysis with a Foucault’s perspective. The results showed differences and similarities in the positions occupied by them in corporations, in their musical backgrounds, professional trainings and restrictions imposed by marriage and by motherhood. Their stories intersect, intermingle, move away and are renewed.
