Abstract

ALVES, Cândida Beatriz  and  PEDROZA, Regina Lúcia Sucupira. Identity, university and integration in latin america: a psychology study. Psicol. rev. (Belo Horizonte) [online]. 2018, vol.24, n.3, pp. 855-874. ISSN 1677-1168.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5752/P.1678-9563.2018v24n3p855-874.

Only long after its territorial conquest, Latin America became a symbolic space. The colonization process implied the meeting between different peoples and cultures, with power inequalities. Relations between the Latin American countries were historically marked by attachment and tensions in view of historical-cultural similarities and differences as well as political and economic choices. Our general aim was to investigate a possible Latin American identity linkage of Latin-American university students. Sixteen semi-structured interviews have been made with undergraduate students of seven nationalities. Interviews were analyzed based on the methods of content analysis, generating signification unities, those being: differences and similarities in Latin America; identity and alterity in relations between Latin America, United States and Europe; relations between Brazil e Hispano- American countries; Latin American identity; integration and university in Latin America. It is remarkable the necessity to give new meanings to Latin American identity valorizing its diversity and creating solidarity bounds in the continent.

Keywords : Latin America; Integration; Identity; University.
