Abstract

MAUX, Ana Andréa Barbosa  and  DUTRA, Elza. A phenomenological-hermeneutic inspired study on male infertility. Psicol. rev. (Belo Horizonte) [online]. 2019, vol.25, n.2, pp. 492-512. ISSN 1677-1168.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5752/P.1678-9563.2019v25n2p492-512.

Culturally, childbearing is understood as a situation that men and women will experience some time in their lives. For a man, infertility is closely related to the loss of masculinity, together with the failure of his role as a male. This study aimed to understand the impacts caused by infertility in the lives of seven infertile, heterosexual men. Data analysis was based on the hermeneutic interpretation, having as theoretical-methodological guidance the analysis of existence proposed by the philosopher Martin Heidegger. After all, the study engenders reflections on the need of changes in the education of boys in addition to the establishment of a space proper to receive men and the expressions of their suffering, as well as the recognition of their capacity to overcome the painful and difficult situations, without stripping them from their masculinity.

Keywords : Male infertility; Gender; Phenomenological research; Martin Heidegger.
