DALCIN, Laura Reichert  e  FERREIRA NETO, João Leite. Social isolation and emotional distress in women during the covid-19 pandemic. Psicol. rev. (Belo Horizonte) [online]. 2021, vol.27, n.1, pp. 185-204. ISSN 1677-1168.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5752/P.1678-9563.2021v27n1p185-204.

Some people are more vulnerable to mental distress during the social isolation imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our aim was to understand the subjective experience of isolation of those individuals. Seven open interviews were conducted with women who self-declared to be experimenting intense mental distress during this period. We did a thematic analysis of the interviews, as proposed by Virginia Braun and Victoria Clarke. This method allowed us to verify that mental distress emerges during isolation and is also intensified by it. Were evidenced: fear in the face of risks and uncertainties; compulsive and harmful behaviours such as substance abuse, overeating, pathological buying, and excessive cleaning; resentment with respect to the lack of cooperation to fight the pandemic; overload due to long working hours at home; inability to concentrate; acute panic disorder.
