Abstract

A multimodal group practice is showed in a Brazilian Day Hospital of the University of São Paulo Ribeirão Preto Medical School, for treatment of 16 acute psychiatric adult patients and teaching for medical residents and trainees in Psychology, Social Work and Occupational Therapy. Their amount and quality were characterized in a single week, from Monday through Friday. The results showed 15,2% groups Type 1 groups for management of DH as a large group in progress, 37% as Type 2 groups for teaching and 47,8% as Type 3 groups for treatment of patients. The groups survived along the years by accomplishing the institutional mission and being introduced and practiced by trained grouptherapists.
