FERNANDES, Beatriz S.. Dificuldades e facilidades na psicoterapia de grupo com crianças. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2001, vol.2, n.2, pp. 81-87. ISSN 1677-2970.

Although the technological advancements of the pharmaceutical industry contribute to the control of mental illness, the emotional side of the human being can only be approached through psychology. The author starts her work identifying the elements that facilitate and the ones that make the children’s grouptherapeutic process difficult. Elements that make it difficult: a) It will be difficult to have patients within the ideal age range to our group. b. Sometimes the diagnosis does not allow indication to the group. b) The groups may be formed already. c) At this moment there is vacancy in the groups but the group dynamics does not allow new patients. d) The therapist must cope with these difficulties so that the group can be formed and mantained. Facilitators: a) The therapeutic group as a choice to work with this age range is a successful technique. b) It is multipersonal. c) It adopts a natural rule of its participants: children are always in groups. The author concludes that the patients in this age range are not children anymore and are not adolescents yet. They are human beings who are still growing, needy and who need anchorage to build their identities.
