Abstract

AVILA, Lazslo Antonio. Mental health: a matter of links. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2003, vol.4, n.4, pp. 69-76. ISSN 1677-2970.

The aim of this text is to discuss the question of Health, in the sense proposed by the World Health Organization. We propose the widening and enrichment of this concept, from 3 departure questions: 1) The overcome of the Disease’s paradigm, which directed by Medicine, has been the north for the other health professions; 2) The discussion of the main illnesses and symptoms affecting physical and mental health, brought by the present stage of Civilization; and 3) The question of the multiple damages to health that are not properly diseases, but which promotes suffering, as well as limitations for the well-being, happiness, productivity and creativity of people. With the resources of Psychoanalysis and of Psychoanalysis of Link Configurations, we intend to conceive Health as a total unity, taking it as the relationships that promote the development of individuals, his/her fellows, as well as the environment, where he/she lives and takes part. In this sense, Health is, essentially, links. Links of man with himself, with his fellows, with groups, with society, with the natural environment.

Keywords : Health; Mental health; Links; Psychoanalysis of link configurations.
