This study aims at discussing the participation of family members in the Treatment Program of Chemical Dependents, evidencing the roles performed within a family group as well the users’ adherence to treatment. The author discussed the efficacy of groups instruments (Family Reception Group, Multifamily Meetings and Nuclear Meetings), the inclusion of a therapeutic team and the organization of health services in a network. The conception of dependency is not restricted to psychoactive substances, but approaches patterns of relationships with the dependent’s family.
