Abstract

VERISSIMO, Danilo Saretta  and  VALLE, Elizabeth Ranier Martins do. Waiting room groups to support somatic patients. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2005, vol.6, n.2, pp. 28-36. ISSN 1677-2970.

This article presents the objectives and clinical implications of waiting room groups from the perspective of a critical review of health practices, as well as groupist practices in the field of psychology. Special attention is given to the adequacy of this practice in line with what is recommended in terms of psychological group interventions to support somatic patients suffering from chronic diseases. Furthermore, the application of waiting room groups is reviewed in different health contexts, ranging from psychoprophylactic work at a geriatric outpatient clinic to cancer patients and their relatives.
