Abstract

MANTOVANI, Alexandre. The war and the groups: a meeting between Bion and Lacan. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2006, vol.7, n.2, pp. 23-29. ISSN 1677-2970.

This work constitutes a commentary regarding a text of Jaques Lacan untitled “the English psychiatry and the war”, in which the author describes its meeting with another psychoanalyst: W. R. Bion. Analyzing the Lacan’s report and the consequences of this meeting it’s made some consideration on the possibilities to approach English and French contributions to the psychoanalytical study of groups. Lacan was inspired by Bion’s group work and founded a kind of “work group” as an instrument for the psychoanalysis transmission. In this way the work with groups constitutes an historic field of approximation between English and French psychoanalytical contributions in spite of the historic rivalry that surround these two schools.

Keywords : Psychoanalysis; Work group; Transmission.
