Abstract

ANDREA, Maria Amélia. Transference and countertransference: feeling as a work instrument on group process. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2006, vol.7, n.2, pp. 51-58. ISSN 1677-2970.

This work deals with the concept of transference and countertransference, tools in a group or individual psychoanalytical psychotherapy process. These concepts become useful in treatment when the therapist is able to pay close attention to what the patient says and tries to understand it as a communication about what both are living together in that specific moment. It is also necessary that the therapist become aware of himself, his own sensations, emotions and thoughts. The term “feeling” was used in the title of this work once its definition usually regards to what is addressed here as transference and countertransference. I also stress that theory and practice need to walk together so that one could be the complement of the other one. In the same way, transference and countertransference must be understood as complementary concepts. In this work, feeling and acting also walked together. Feeling, perceiving, understanding and saying compose the times of a session and so was this work produced.

Keywords : Transference; Countertransference; Feeling; Affection.
