Abstract

CAVALLARI, Maria de Lourdes Rossetto  and  MOSCHETA, Murilo dos Santos. Considerations about projective identification on psychoanalytic group therapy. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2007, vol.8, n.1, pp. 00-00. ISSN 1677-2970.

This work aims at considering the unconscious communication among the participants and the therapist of a psychotherapeutic group. It is specially focused on drawing a brief account of the most relevant psychoanalytical theoretical considerations on the concept of projective identification and illustrate the discussion with a group session vignette. First, the authors focus on the formulation of the projective identification concept within Kleinian theory about the psychological development and stress its defensive function. Bion’s contributions are presented, and allows to comprehend the concept as a primitive way of communication. A group session vignette is presented to discuss the concept and to illustrate either its defensive use, once it impairs the therapist’s analytic function, and its communicational use. Finally, it is discussed the importance of investing in the therapist’s training, particularly in personal analysis and supervision, as a mean of developing and preserving its analytical skills.
