Abstract

BRASILIANO, Silvia. Drug-addicted group psychoanalysis: development of new approaches for the institutional reality. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2007, vol.8, n.2, pp. 00-00. ISSN 1677-2970.

Institutional clinical practice addressed to drug addicts has at its core two dimensions in which more than necessary it is crucial to introduce changes to the psychoanalysis practice: the institution and the drug addiction. The purpose of this study is to describe the experience of a multidisciplinary team working in a drug and alcohol dependent program at a university public hospital for group psychoanalysis restructuring. The psychoanalysis group was completely open in the beginning, i.e., patients would attend the sessions as they liked and non-attendance did not affect their ties to the program. But later on changes were implemented, the psychotherapy contract allowed no more than three non-attendances without prior notice and the patient would be then recall in and their non-attendance would mean treatment withdrawal. The team’s progress as well as considerations and thoughts on patients’ wishes, demands and transferential issues are described here.

Keywords : Group psychotherapy; Substance-related disorders; Psychiatric department hospital; Psychoanalysis.
