This study aimed to discuss the relevance of the support group as a modality of intervention in the psychosocial rehabilitation of mastectomized women. The group offers a space for listening and speech, in which participants can freely discuss issues related to fighting breast cancer. On average, 30 participants take part in the meetings, which occur three times a week and last an hour. The results indicate that the group promotes a favourable environment for social support; sharing of feelings; developing skills for coping with difficult situations; health education; information and discussion of existential issues.
