Abstract

ANDRADE, Marcela Lança de; MISHIMA-GOMES, Fernanda Kimie Tavares  and  BARBIERI, Valéria. Family bonds and psychological care: parent's listening to the child's discharge. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2012, vol.13, n.1, pp. 5-13. ISSN 1677-2970.

When considered necessary, many parents seek psychological care in the best interests of their children. It is expected from the therapeutic process to cure children and help them to be successful in future. Society demands from parents to give the best support for their children so that they can grow and match the expectations of success. The environment and family members affect directly the child’s development. Therefore, although the child has an innate tendency to self-development, in other to develop healthily, he or she needs favourable environment. Nevertheless, in some cases, psychotherapy might not be the only option as the family realises it can strengthen family bonds and support children. However, the possibility to be given ‘discharge’ is not easily accepted. Family care only, instead of psychotherapy, can make parents distressed and angry. As an example, this work introduces two cases in which it was recommended that therapy should not be undergone and family care only was cause of distress and frustration for the parents.
